Making a meal with gluten-free tortillas can be a frustrating experience. If you’ve ever tried them, you likely know just how fragile they can be! Instead, savoy cabbage leaves are your PERFECT solution! They’re strong, full of flavour and they add freshness to each and every mouthful. As an added bonus, they also pack WAY more nutrition into each bite as compared to their grain-based alternatives!

These wraps are a wonderful way to boost your vegetable intake in the most delicious way! There’s plenty of flexibility with this recipe, and you can modify these wraps by swapping in chickpeas, peanuts, prawns or fish in place of the cashews and sunflower seeds. Enjoy!

Savoury Sesame Savoy Wraps

Vegan Savoury Sesame Savoy Wraps

These fresh and nutritious vegan wraps make for a delicious family dinner, and they’re also loved as a healthy option when entertaining guests!


  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seed oil
  • 1 small head of savoy cabbage
  • 1 ½ cups yellow onion, sliced (1 medium yellow onion)
  • 3 cups shiitake mushrooms, sliced (100 grams or approximately 10-15 mushrooms)
  • 5 cups baby bok choy, separated into individual leaves and/or coarsely chopped
  • 3 cups snow peas (300 grams), ends removed and halved
  • 5 cups carrots, shaved or thinly sliced (approximately 6 medium carrots)
  • ¼ cup hemp seeds
  • ⅔ cup cashews
  • ⅓ cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 batch Savoury Sesame Stir-Fry Sauce


  1. Heat the toasted sesame seed oil in a large wok over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms to the wok with the chicken, and cook for 3-4 minutes before adding the baby bok choy, snap peas and shaved carrot. Cook 1-2 more minutes before adding the hemp seeds and 1 batch of Savoury Sesame Stir-Fry Sauce. Remove your wok from the heat.
  2. Separate the savoy cabbage into individual leaves and trim down the thickness of the vein on the back of the leaves. 
  3. Scoop the stir-fry mixture into the cabbage leaves enjoy as a delicious wrap!  A typical serving size is equivalent to 2 wraps. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to 4-5 days, but keep your cabbage wraps separate from the mixture until serving.


Vegans can replace the honey with maple syrup or coconut nectar in the Savoury Sesame Stir--Fry Sauce.

Pescatarian protein options - Optionally you can add cooked prawns, salmon or other fish to your wok when you add the sauce.

No nuts - Replace the cashews with chickpeas.

No legumes -Replace the snow peas with another vegetable. Ideas include bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower or zucchini.
